Stop Needing a Job, The World Needs You!

I have applied countless number of times and yet no job. In fact I'm tired of applying. The Nigerian government is not trying for graduates in this country. And many more. While chatting with some of my job seeker contacts on BBM, these are some of the comments I get from them.

Let me explain why you've found yourself in that situation. First, to make you understand better, I'll take a typical scenario which I believe most of us are conversant with; Boy-Girl relationships.

Imagine your a lonely guy who insists that women won't come near you despite the fact that he is the nicest guy in the world. I can explain what is wrong with this mindset. "Nice guy? Who gives a shit?

"What, so am I saying that you can't get girls unless you have a nice job and make lots of money?"
No, your brain jumps to that conclusion so you have an excuse to write off everyone who rejects you by thinking that they're just being shallow, materialistic and selfish.

I'm asking, what do you offer? Are you smart? Funny? Interesting? Rich? Talented? Ambitious? Creative?
Don't say that you're a nice guy -- that's the barest minimum. Pretty girls have guys being nice to them 36 times a day. Saying that you're a nice guy is like a restaurant whose only selling point is that the food doesn't make you sick.

Does that break your heart? I'm sorry.
OK, so now what? Are you going to droop your big head in shame and mope about it, or are you going to do something about it? It's up to you, but don't complain about how girls fall for jerks; they fall for those jerks because those jerks have other things they can offer.
You say: "But I'm a great listener!" Because you're willing to sit quietly in exchange for the chance to be in the proximity of a pretty girl (and spend every second imagining how soft her skin must be)? Well guess what, there's another guy in her life who also knows how to do that, and guess what again? He can play the guitar!
Can you?

I hope you're getting the hang of it now. So let's look at this in relation to your career.

You are a graduate with 2.1 or 2.2 or perhaps first class and you have been complaining and applying for jobs for the past couple of years, but all to no avail.
Let me ask you this, Who isn't a graduate nowadays? In fact there are millions of graduates with a first class degree and 2.1 talk more of 2.2. And guess what? Many of them have a Master's degree even PhD. Many are computer wizards. Many can are superb writers and orators.

What are you? What can you do?

Don't get me wrong, it's not just about academic qualifications. It could be anything. Anybody could've written off the popular Aki and Paw-Paw, but these guys are funny and creative. There are lots of people like them moving about, feeling sorry for themselves.
A fan once tweeted about P-Square saying their grammar is tacky and crappy. P-Square tweeted back saying "English doesn't put food on our table, Music does". And that all that matters. I love these guys!

Aki and Paw-Paw, and  P-Square can create something we all love and we can't help but pay for their products and service. Consequently, these guys get richer everyday!

Look, the world is filled with people who need things. People need information, food, gas, they need their problems fixed, they need to learn, they need better ways to manage their finance, they want entertainment, and they even need sexual satisfaction! Lol. i'm not saying you should turn to a whore. But I'm sure you get my point.

If you are reading this, you are probably amongst these kind of people.

Why not turn yourself from that person that needs a job to a person who people and jobs need. Stop needing, the world already has enough needs, don't add to it. Provide for it.
Enroll for a professional computer course today, get your ICAN, learn how to draw, play good music, learn how to design beautiful websites, can you cook well?, learn something useful today and do it very well. It could be anything no matter how small. I challenge you today. The world is waiting, including me!

Good luck in all you endeavors.

  4. Hi Anonymous 22 March 2013 09:05, it all depends on your passion. I'd advise you do what you love doing. No matter how ridiculous it seems. Just something that will be of good value to other people, the reward wil follow. trust me. it could be blogging, bakery, sewing, teaching etc. just think deep. What do you love doing?
